About

Carly was born in June of 1999 in Boston Massachusetts. She grew up in her family home alongside her older brother and younger sister. Carly discovered her passion for ceramics in high school and has had her hands in clay ever since.  After a summer internship at a local pottery studio, Carly’s  interest in working with clay was only reaffirmed. She attended Skidmore College eager for the opportunity to further discover her passions and curious about where her studies would take her. In 2021 Carly graduated Skidmore College with a Bachelors of Art in Psychology and minors in Studio Art and Anthropology.

After college, Carly focused on her ceramics by making, promoting, selling, and showing her work since moving to Los Angeles where she currently resides. She continues to make work in her new studio while exploring her future in both psychology and the art world.

Artist's Statement

Throughout my career, my passion for making functional work has grown and evolved into an interest in form, figure, and function. My functional work is mostly wheel-thrown and inspired by exciting mundane every day tasks such as choosing a cereal bowl in the morning or sipping on a mug of coffee or tea. I aim to elevate the eating experience by spreading joy and connection through the use of my functional pieces.

My sculptural work is primarily hand built with a focus on exploring the bounds of movement, scale, and surface. My fascination with sculpting organic forms and vessels comes from a place of spontaneity during the creating process. Often times I start a sculpture with no real plan or idea of what I want the final product to look like. I begin building the walls and see where the clay leads me. Lately I have been inspired by the body, flow, balance, perspective, and proportions.

I do not currently have any work available for purchase online.
